While I was researching material for my book "Masters of Walcote, Leicestershire" I visited areas which were significant to Richard Masters and members of his family both before and after he left England in 1856. These photos were taken in 2007.

Richard's father John was the son of Joseph Masters and Ann Brown who were married in St Nicholas's church in Mowsley on 26 June 1806. They moved to the rural community of Arnesby where six of their nine children were born. The others were born in Walcote where they moved probably just after the death of their daughter Anna in 1818.

St Peters Church in Arnesby

All the children who were born in Arnesby were christened at St Peter's.

Misterton Lodge, Misterton Hall and Misterton Rectory
John's eldest brother James, was born on 19 April 1806. He later married Elizabeth Brown at St Leonards in 1832. By 1861, he had become the farm bailiff and lived at Misterton Lodge (left photo) where Elizabeth was the Housekeeper and in 1871, he was a shepherd and Elizabeth was a domestic servant at Miisterton Hall (middle photo). The Rectory (right photo) was next to St Leonard's Church.
